I am going to start going to a tanning salon. What do I need to know?

Good for you! People make a big deal about how ';bad'; it is and that you'll get cancer, yadayada. The reality is that as long as your very careful and don't get a burned, you should be fine. I'm no expert, but that is what I've read. That being said:

- Start off in a medium bed, usually about 12 minutes for the first couple of times

- Once you get a base, move up to 15 minutes

- Then, when you're ready move to the high beds for about 10 minutes (really you don't need any more than that)

- You only need to go 2-3 times a week at the beginning, no more than that, and once you get to the point where you're at the high beds, only 1-2 times

- Also, use a stand up bed once and a while to get rid of the pressure marks that you'll get on your but, back, and legs (whatever is touching the bed)

Tips/Things to keep in mind:

- Do not use outside tanning lotions as they are not made for this, talk to the staff at the place you're going to go to as they will be able to recommend an appropriate lotion (yes it's expensive, but it's worth it, now is not the time to be cheap, this is your skin we're talking about)

- Use an after lotion as well to hold the colour

- Do not shower immediately after tanning, try to wait about a 1/2 hour at least to ';set'; lotions, etc

- I know it's uncomfortable your first time, but naked is the best way to go, if you're not ready wear your bra and underwear, just move the straps down

- Be VERY sure the bed is clean prior to laying down (the staff should do this before/after each person uses a bed)

Have fun and relax.I am going to start going to a tanning salon. What do I need to know?
Insert secret cameras in the beds.I am going to start going to a tanning salon. What do I need to know?
nothing
How long it takes before you get skin cancer!
I say don't use those things. They have so many sunless lotions. Didn't you see Final Destination 3??? !! ;)
When you start make sure you invest in a good lotion to maximize your sessions, don't go everyday at first until you have a base tan, start out about 8 min in a lay down bed and about 4 min in stand up, don't shower after you tan because everything is still working after you leave the salon, you should get no fewer than 150 minutes to look tanned, make sure you have a good moisturizer to use after tanning, increase your time about 2 minutes every few sessions, don't go to fast to increase time cause if you burn you'll be very itchy and it'll take a few days to settle down.
I say don't use the beds. Don't fake bake! It'll make your skin dry and leathery after time. Plus they can cause dehydration and skin cancer. They have allot of other sunless tans to try and check out. Some places have a better formula then others. I'm not sure what state you are in but the best '; sunless tans'; or aka ';mystic tans'; I have seen are from Dark Tan and Palm Beach. Some of the others make you orangery around stretch mark areas. I won't lie, the sunless tans are more money, but they are safer and one session lasts about 1-2 weeks. And in my opinion it is worth more money compaired to the risks of the beds.
Don't go every single day. Every other day at the MOST is fine, otherwise you turn orange and that's not hot.

Do use an indoor tanning lotion and wear protective eyewear

Do Moisturize after! You want to keep that tan!

Don't shower right after you tan, even though you can smell your tanning lotion on yourself

Don't shave your legs or wax your eyebrows the same day you tan (or try not to) - you're removing skin

Have fun!
Be careful...don't get burned. Start with just a few minutes and work up. Don't go two days in a row, your skin needs time to process.
Nothing much. Except make sure you flip sides in the middle of the session so that you don't get any white lines. For your first time go about 8-10 minutes.
Where to find one!
a tanning booth can be very bad for your skin (but then so can the sun) don't go if you have a skin condition or sensitive skin is my advice and make an informed decision
B eware of claims like these. Ads that claim indoor tanning devices are a safe alternative to outdoor tanning may be false. Tanning indoors damages your skin. That鈥檚 because indoor tanning devices emit ultraviolet rays. Tanning occurs when the skin produces additional pigment (coloring) to protect itself against burn from ultraviolet rays. Overexposure to these rays can cause eye injury, premature

wrinkling of the skin, and light-induced skin rashes, and can increase your chances of developing skin cancer.
