I'm 15 and my all-time dream is to own a tanning salon and I want to do that now! Please details!!How old do you have to be to own a tanning salon?
You need to be at least 18 to sign the contracts for a lease, business license, permits and any contract with your suppliers. How old do you have to be to own a tanning salon?
You need to be at least 18. You cant have a credit card (which youll need for the purchases), sign a lease/buy property, apply for a loan etc under 18.
Its probably better to be older though. Consider education (college/ Smart Tan Certification/ Experience/Money)
You are an important tool. Everytime you go somewhere or use something you make a judgement. Think of all the things you like %26amp; dislike about tanning salons you visit. Apply that to your future business.
I dont know all the specifics of it - although one day i hope to.
You need money. Not just to start the business on but to fall back on (just incase) Money for the location, beds, products (eyewear towels lotions etc), furniture, tv/radio system, renovations, decor, employee wages, monthly bills, software, website, advertising, computers etc.
You'll need to find a spot. It might be ideal if the area was previously a tanning salon.
You will need enough beds. People hate to wait. You dont need to have like 3 of each bed- this will probably hurt you more than help because tanning salons usually have seasons that are more popular than others. My tanning salon has like 2-3 beds for each level (there are 4 levels) The exception to that is level 4 which only has 1 laydown. Keep in mind beds are expensive. Dont get cheap beds. I HATE that when salons have crappy beds that are some no name brand.
You really need to be educated on tanning. So you can inform your clients. this includes lotions! if there are some certification courses like Smart Tan - do it. If you can get a job at a tanning salon which ideally should be your first step before owning one- do it. Try finding out if your local salon is hiring even for the lowest position like the girl who washes towels. This is important because what if you totally hate working in a tanning salon? you're obviously going to hate owning one. Alot of tanning salons won't hire under 18 but it never hurts to ask.
I would also reccomend you go to college- take business courses or major in it.
Youre going to need to stay up to date on health codes and laws. Get all the necessary permits and stuff. Consult with a lawyer if necessary.
Reach out to your customers.
I tried 3-4 different tanning salons before settling on the one i'm at now. I LOVE MY SALON. They do sooo much for their customers. The hours are amazing(M-F 9am to 11pm. Sat 8am to midnight. Sun 10am-9pm) They offer decent priced packages. They dont rip you off for lotions. Some salons will charge you 70 dollars for a 45 dollars bottle of lotion. My salon will charge like 50 and that comes with a free packet of a moisturizer. They also give you a free tan with any bottle purchase. Offer a variety of lotions both bottled and packets. Their tanning prices are reasonable. They offer great discounts- right now they are offering 10% off all packages. They do 15%discounts for students. Have lotion of the month specials (like 20% off the lotion of the month) If you bring a new customer in you get a free tan or like 10% off a bottle. All of those sorts of things are what get you customers that are loyal and bring in a lot of new customers. You need to know how to advertise and market your good
Good luck.
