I am thinking of opening a tanning salon in my area (Riverside County, Southern CA) and would like to know what women out there look for in a great salon. Would offering cocktails in the waiting lounge entice you? What about cheaper rates? What kind of music? The types of tanning beds? Please help! Thanks!!!Question for the ladies: What types of things would be offered at a great tanning salon?
Ok,probably not drinks because I think you shouldnt drink while goin into a tanning bed. I was say up to date music, if you are wanting to attract the younger generation. You should buy diff. level of tanning beds. Then offer points to people. People can buy points and each diff. level of bed will be so many points. I think thats a great way beacause alot of tanning beds make u pay to upgrade, so this way they wouldnt. Also, have Mystic Tan and a variety of diff. lotions. Make sure you include make-up remover and pads, deordrant, hot towels for the face, mirrors etc. Go to a few diff. tanning beds and ck out what they offer. Also, you could buy the tanning beds w/ CD players and radios so your customers can listen to what they want instead of one radio station for all beds. When you open, make a Grand Opening Sale, like $5.00 every 35.00 you spend, Hope this helps! Maybe I should open one in Ohio lol.Question for the ladies: What types of things would be offered at a great tanning salon?
Cheap rates are always good....I would offer other things in the salon besides the regular lotions and such...maybe offer candles or something....and snacks are always a good thing!
A GREAT tanning salon would offer a caution pamplet full of warnings to damages that will occur to the skin and potential harms from chronic tanning.
You are beautiful without dark skin, and if you don't believe so, use the spray-on or lather on tanning creams... but tanning salons are dangerouly harmful to you. It's hard to ignore the hype of tanning salons in CA, but direct rays to the skin kills skin cells... And any sun burns increases your chances of skin cancer greatly.
Haven't you read that article about the girl who frequently tanned at a salon her parents owned from age 13-23years old...and then, died from skin cancer?
If you want a relxaing salon...go to a massage parlor or go get an enticing facial. Have cocktails during a pedicure. Pamper yourself that way. Stay healthy, girl!
If I was you, I'd go to all the salons in the area where you're going to open yours, and check to see how they operate. See what they offer, and think how you could do it better.
The one most important thing for me would be that the place is clean, and the staff polite and professional.
Low rates are always good.
If you're giving out free samples, package them in a cute little package. Something that has your logo on it. Maybe a little basket with a wash towel (that has your logo), with a candle and some other kind of feel-good gift.
Offer a variety of drinks - herb tea, soda, alcoholic drinks, etc. Maybe make a little menu they can choose from when they come in. Just a card size menu your receptionist hands them when they walk in.
I'd recommend that you have ';mystic tanning'; or some other kind of safe alternative to tanning. I don't think people tan as much as they used to, because they fear skin cancer, wrinkles, etc.
I think you'd need a liquor license to serve cocktails, so that probably wouldn't work.
Well no drinks of course these people have to drive home. Free samples of tanning lotion, individual steroes in each room (i take my favorite cd with me), clean towels always and clean rooms, Fans in every room, and free session for every like 20 sessions you buy.
I have been to several different tanning salons...here is what I personally loved about some of them:
Option of stand-up beds (I just cannot lay down where another oily person was just laying!)
Must sell all kinds of tanning lotions and bronzers
Make sure everything is always very clean
Playing rock songs, but the remix version; this keeps people upbeat and happy BUT on the flip side, if you have more serene music, it is very relaxing!
The one I go to now has a fingerprint scanner that you place your index finger on to verify who you are and this makes it fast for you to get in and out.
Little touches like mints and candies and having cotton balls and astringent for you to take your makeup off before going in!
Cocktails would be nice, but liabilty issues could be a problem if someone over indulged. Iced cappucinos, or iced fruit blends of some sort would be a better appeal for me personally. Cheaper rates are always a plus! Moist cool terry towels in the rooms to refresh yourself with afterwards would be nice. How about a refer-a-friend program... like if I refer 3 people to your salon I get a free session... Word of mouth, with an incentive behind it, could be good for business. Good luck!
I've been to a few tanning salons, and what you offer depends on the type of clientelle you want. I wouldn't offer drinks though, the booths tend to dry you out, and water after is always a good thing. also there are several types of tanning beds out there, i happen to like either the standing version, or the larger laying down version. that way i don't have to twist and turn to get all the spots. also, the better the bulbs on the face, the better. also, i like having control of the fan and music at my fingertips, and don't like having to wear headphones to listen to music. guess i'm picky, but i know what i like
I think you should go for the bronzer beds. Most popular. Maybe spray tan, and heat beds. Have a selection of oils and lotions that are reasonably priced. Perhaps a drink machine that you have access too so you can sell what is wanted. Keep rates reasonable. We know you need to make a profit but don't take it out of our wallet at one time. Personal radios with headphones. With that I would be a regular. :)
some sort of music system that worked like an i-pod- where they could choose their own music rather than listen to radio or cds that you choose.
